If you're using Zoho Books to connect with Forwardly and are now receiving emails from Zoho Books about reaching your API call limit, it means Zoho Books has temporarily restricted how often external apps like Forwardly can sync data with your account. This can cause delays or interruptions in syncing bills, payments, or records between Zoho Books and Forwardly.
This issue originates on the Zoho Books side and is related to how their API limits work.
Why is Forwardly making so many API requests?
Forwardly’s integration with Zoho Books relies on Zoho’s API to read and update your records. The number of API calls available to you depends on your Zoho Books subscription level. As an example, for standard Zoho Books plans:
- Zoho Books typically allows 2,000 API requests per day.
- Your requests limit is a shared pool for all integrations you have connected with Zoho Books.
- Each record is pulled individually, which uses API calls quickly.
- Even normal syncing activity can consume the daily limit faster than expected.
When that limit is reached, Zoho Books sends warning emails and temporarily blocks additional API requests until the next day. Those emails are directly related to this behavior.
How this affects Forwardly's accounting sync
When Zoho’s API limit is hit:
- Syncs between Zoho Books and Forwardly may pause
- Bills or payments may not appear immediately
- Updates may resume automatically once Zoho resets the daily limit
Forwardly is not able to override or bypass Zoho’s API limits.
How to get more Zoho Books API Call Limits with Forwardly
You have two possible paths, depending on your preference.
Option 1: Request a higher API limit from Zoho Books
Zoho’s API limits are often intended to prevent abuse, and in many cases, businesses can request a higher daily limit. You can always reach out to support to get an estimate of what they think your limit will need to be to support a daily sync with Forwardly.
You can contact Zoho Books support using their official guidance to increase your daily limit.
Option 2: Upgrade your Zoho Books subscription
If Zoho is unable to increase your API limit on your current plan, upgrading your Zoho Books subscription is the only way to unlock higher API limits at this time.
Zoho’s higher-tier plans include increased daily API request allowances, which can prevent future sync interruptions.
What to expect after increasing your Zoho Books API Call Limit
API limit emails will continue until the limit is increased or your plan is upgraded, and sync interruptions are an expected behavior when your limits are reached. Once the limit resets or is increased, syncing should resume normally.
If you continue to experience issues after increasing your API limit, please contact Forwardly Support and let us know. We’re happy to review your setup and confirm everything is working as expected on our side.
